Biography

 

Cristina Melis, mezzo, graduated in singing at conservatoire in Parma, specializing then in Rome with Adriana Giunta, Virginia Zeani, Giusy Devinu, Giorgio Zancanaro, Michele Pertusi, Bernadette Manca di Nissa and Franco Federici. She then graduated at the “ A. Toscanini”Accademy (Busseto - PR). She won the International Lyric Contest “Giacomo Lauri Volpi” and the International Contest “Giuseppe Verdi” in Parma thanks that she debuted as Azucena in Il Trovatore in Parma. At the beginning of her career she sang: Suzuki in Madama Butterfly at the Teatro Nazionale in Rome; Sara in Roberto Devereux at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, Conducted by M° Bruno Campanella; Achille in Cherubini’s Ifigenia in Aulide in Sassuolo; Madelon in Andrea Chénier at the Theatre du Capitole in Toulouse; Dorotea in Pedrotti’s Tutti in maschera in Savona, Piacenza and Rovigo and  she was Die Dame in Die Zauberfloete at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome. Active also on the concert side she starred in 9th Symphony  at the Accademia di S. Cecilia in Rome; Verdi’s Requiem in Egypt and in Saint Petersburg; the Petite Messe Solennelle with the Toscanini Orchestra in Bologna; Mozart’s Requiem with the Orchestra of the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona l'Oratorio "La Morte di San Giuseppe" by Pergolesi in Budapest, and the Verdi’s Requiem in Cagliari Guidarini conducting and Verdi’s Requiem at the Anima Mundi Festival in Pisa, with M°Aldo Ceccato.

 During the last year and the 2016, Melis has had the opportunity to debut in the following roles: Azucena at Theater Comunale of Cagliari by M. G. Bisanti, Fricka in Rheingold at the Teatro of Kiel with Maestro M. R.Calderon and Carmen at the and at the Comunale di Bologna conducted by M.F.Chaslin.

Olga in Evgenij Onegin of Tchaikosky and as Adriano in the Rienzi's Wagner at Opernhause in Kiel. At the  Royal Opera of Wollonie of Liegi in Luisa Miller as Federica, with maestro M° M.Zanetti. And at the Comunale of Bologna as Filipyevna(Nenia) of Evgenij Onegin. 

Cristina Melis has played Fenena from Nabucco at the Summer Festival of Kiel conducted by Maestro F.Cilluffo. And Mercedes, in the Carmen of Zeffirelli in the Arena di Verona. 

 Her operatic stage repertoire also includes, Maddalena in Rigoletto,Cieca in Gioconda, Cenerentola. Bergere, Un Patre, La Chatte e l’Ecureuil, in l’Enfant et Sortileges, Azucena, Amneris, Sara(Roberto Devereux Theater Opera of Roma, etc..

 Melis has an extensive array of oratorio such as, Oratorio di Paisiello "La passione di Gesù Cristo" playing Pietro, at the Duomo of Milano. At the Aracoeli in Roma and la Basilica di Taranto has sang the Requiem di Verdi,  conducted by M. Gelmetti.

In 2013 with the orchestra of the Comunale di Bologna La Messa KV317 by Mozart conducted by M°R. Abbado. With the Comunale di Bologna,Te Deum of A. Bruckner with Maestro M° Zagrosek. Invited by the Italian embassy in Kiev, Ukraine with the National Opera Of Kiev sang in a gala concert, Aida e Requiem di Verdi. At the Duomo of Milan, sings Isacco, in the Sacrificio di Abramo by D. Cimarosa directed by M° A. D'Agostini. Requiem di Verdi at Teatro Comunale di Cagliari directed by M° M. Guidarini. At the Duomo di Pisa, the Stabat Mater by A. Scarlatti, and the Salve Regina of D. Scarlatti and Cur Sagittas of Vivaldi. The Messa in Do maggiore of L.V. Beethoven at the Duomo di Pisa, between others.

 

Mrs Melis collaborated with conductors such as B.Bartoletti, M. Mariotti, G. Morandi, G.Bisanti Severini,M.Beltrami,Gatti,Wilson, LaVecchia, S.Dinic,B.Campanella,R.Abbado,M.Zanetti, P.Steinberg, F.Cilluffo, M.DeBernart, D.Oren, M.Mariotti, J.Kovatchev, P.Arrivabeni, Jurowski and directors such as De Ana, Zeffirelli, Micheli, Sammaritani Pier’Alli, Franconi Lee, B. Willson Cannito etc.
